About my practice…

Therapy can be a difficult, but highly rewarding process! When I show up in the counseling room, it is important that my clients know I will be there to walk with them through whatever may be going on in their lives. I do this by offer empathy, softness, acceptance, and support. I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy, in which the client sets their own goals for treatment and I offer assistance in helping them achieve those goals. This isn’t to mean I don’t occasionally offer gentle confrontation or point out blindspots in a client’s life which they might not be able to see at the moment. Instead, I may ask someone to direct their attention to unresolved parts of their past or ways in which hidden emotions may be clouding their everyday experiences.

I typically use emotion-focused therapy, attachment therapy, and family systems interventions to talk with clients about their childhoods and relationships. I combine these modalities with solution-focused therapy interventions in order to help clients transform this information about their past into helpful ways of managing their future.

I also work with littles! I love using child-centered play therapy to explore the inner world of children and help them develop emotional identification and regulation skills that will last them a lifetime. During these sessions, I like to incorporate play, art, and other creative activities that enable children to express their authentic selves in the presence of a fully accepting adult—a rare opportunity in a world that expects us to mask our true selves for the comfort of others.
